Universities are no longer considered 'ivory towers' - PM

 

The university can no longer be considered an 'ivory tower' which carries the meaning of exclusive, majestic and isolated from society.

The Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said, on the contrary, it should be one of the best components of the community ecosystem and give strengthening to the local community, the country and even the world.

He explained that although in principle, academics are obliged to conduct research to explore the horizons of knowledge and build expertise, but there is still a lot of space in research that can be developed for the benefit of the general public. 

"Academics need to change the pattern of thinking from 'knowledge for knowledge' to 'knowledge for society and the country'. 

In this context, the direction of research needs to be in line with the challenges and address the questions faced by the local community, race and global community, ”he said.
